Education

I am a product of the Greene County School system.

I attended Doak Elementary and then graduated from Chuckey-Doak High School in 1985. After graduation, I attended East Tennessee State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. I later attended and graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee with a Master of Music Education degree.

Experience

My teaching experience began as a substitute teacher in the Greeneville City and Greene County School Systems. I also was a substitute in Elizabethton City Schools.

My first full-time teaching position was at Lamar Elementary School in Washington County, TN. I filled an interim music position while the regular teacher spent a year in Australia with her husband. After that year was finished, I was hired by Greene County Schools to teach music at Chuckey and West Pines Elementary Schools. I taught at those two schools for three years and then went to the Greeneville City School System to teach music/art at Highland Elementary School. After four years, I left and began work on my Master's Degree.

In January of 2004, I began teaching music and theatre at Chuckey-Doak and South Greene High Schools. I was eventually placed at Chuckey-Doak HS full-time. In 2014, I left Chuckey-Doak to go to Cherokee High School in Hawkins County to teach music. After two years, I went to East Tennessee State University to work in the Department of Music. I truly missed teaching in the classroom, so when this position came available, I applied and here I am!

I am very excited to return to the elementary music classroom and make music with small humans!

Bio

Although I was born in Asheville, NC, and lived in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for a short time, I am a Greene County girl through and through!

My mother's family is from Greeneville and my dad's family is from Rocky Fork and Erwin. My dad was in the Army, so that's why I lived in Missouri. I attended kindergarten while I lived there. My sister was also born there.

I have one sister who is married and has two adult children, Heather and Matthew Church.

After moving back to Tennessee, I enrolled at Doak Elementary. I was in the first group of students to attend school in the new building! After Doak, I attended and graduated from Chuckey-Doak High School.

I began singing in church when I was three years old. My mom played the guitar for me. When I was five, I began taking piano lessons and while at Chuckey-Doak, I developed a deep love for choral music and it was there that I decided to major in music education.

I majored in music education and graduated from East Tennessee State University. After graduation, I began my teaching career (you can read about my work experience on the "Experience" page).

In addition to teaching, I have been the choir director at several different churches -- Salem Presbyterian, Reformation Lutheran, Trinity United Methodist, and Solomon Lutheran.

While I was the choir director at Reformation Lutheran church, I met my future husband. It would, however, be many years before we would get married. On 07/07/07, I married the love of my life -- Tim Solomon. Tim is a Cedar Creek guy. He attended Cedar Creek Elementary and South Greene High School. He works for American Appliance Products (SSW Holdings) in Newport, TN where he is the plant controller. We have a farm in the South Greene community where we have beef cattle and dogs.

We attend Solomon Lutheran Church where we are the music directors.
