Homework Policy

Typically, your child should have ample opportunity to complete assignments in class if he/she uses class time wisely.  A review of skills or review for a test is advised especially if your child has difficulty with a particular subject.   Your child is provided has been provided an assignment book to help keep track of assignments.
A reading log with a total of 120 minutes should be completed throughout the week.  Your child may choose an on-level AR book to read for this log.  The student will read for approximately 20 minutes each night, write the amount of minutes and page numbers read, and complete a short response about the reading.  The student will be required to take a test on the AR site when he/she completes the book.  If the student fails a test, he/she will be required to do a one page book report.  Parents should write the amount of time spent reading and sign for each day.  A completed log is taken up on Friday as a new reading log is given out.  The completion of this log is one of the weekly grades in Reading.
Classwork/homework must be done and turned in on time.  If an assignment is incomplete or missing, it is considered late.  Your child will lose 5 minutes  from playtime, and 10 points will be deducted from the homework grade. Late work may be turned in by 8:00 the following day for reduced credit.  If the assignment is more than a day late, the student will receive a grade of zero.  Three missing assignments in one nine weeks for Reading Language Arts and Social Studies will result in an after-school detention.  Choices tickets will be lost for missing assignments.   A student must have a certain number of  Choices tickets to attend the extra play on Friday, the activity at the end of the 41/2 weeks, and the activity at the end of each nine week period.
Graded work is sent home in a green folder on Tuesday of each week.  Please ask for this folder and talk with your child about his/her work.  If at any time you feel a conference is needed, please send a note with your child, call, or email, and I will meet with you during my planning time. My planning time is on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from 1:15-2:00.
